Gates Ventures Joins Intermountain Health, Emory Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Presbyterian Healthcare, and SSM Health to Propel the Adoption of Graphite Health’s S2 Standard in Digital Health

Salt Lake City, Utah, February 5, 2025 – Graphite Health is making major strides in strengthening its commitment to the future of healthcare by deepening its relationships with some of the most influential healthcare stakeholders in the industry, including Intermountain Health, Gates Ventures, and Emory Healthcare. These collaborations mark a significant step toward the widespread adoption of Graphite’s S2 Standard and platform, which aim to enable open, interoperable, data-driven solutions across the country.

Intermountain Health, a leading not-for-profit health system, is deepening its commitment to Graphite Health’s S2 standard and data platform. This strategic move is designed to enhance data interoperability, enabling smarter and faster decision-making to improve patient care outcomes.

“We’re seeing the value of Graphite’s platform coming to life at Intermountain,” remarked Dan Liljenquist, Graphite Health’s board chair and chief strategy officer at Intermountain Health. “It’s helping to reduce friction between systems and adding value by enabling seamless data exchange, which translates to better outcomes for patients and providers.”

Meanwhile, Gates Ventures, a private philanthropic group, has provided Graphite Health with a grant supporting the platform’s deployment and scalability. Niranjan Bose, managing director at Gates Ventures, emphasized the potential benefits of improving data access and quality, suggesting it remainsan important factor in creating more efficient and equitable healthcare systems. He noted, “As a nonprofit, Graphite Health can encourage progress on industry-wide transparency and efficient exchange of information. We believe that open, interoperable data standards are important in promoting a more collaborative, inclusive, and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem.”

In addition, Emory Healthcare, a renowned academic health system, is progressing its collaboration with Graphite Health that will enhance data sharing and clinical decision-making, supporting Emory’s goal of creating a unified, efficient healthcare system that improves outcomes for both patients and providers. Enterprise Chief Digital and Information Officer Dr. Alistair Erskine emphasized the importance of the Graphite S2 data standard in this transformation, stating, “Leveraging S2 across our system would be agame-changer. It could ensure that all data is structured in a consistent way, which would improve the accuracy, timeliness, and usability of information for clinical decision-making, ultimately enhancing care for our patients.”

As Graphite’s CEO, Corey Schmid is focused on nurturing these strategic alliances to drive further growth and innovation. "With the support of key stakeholders like Intermountain Health, Gates Ventures, and Emory Healthcare, our novel collaboration, between cutting-edge technologists and visionary healthcare systems, we’re creating the world’s most comprehensive standard for health data, and a massively scalable platform for its seamless use,” said Schmid.

Liljenquist echoed his excitement:"The collaboration between Gates Ventures and Graphite Health represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of healthcare technology. By leveraging a common knowledge standard, and a shared commitment to improving patient outcomes, we are creating a future where healthcare is more accessible, efficient, and equitable for all."
